The Mathematics Department of Shenzhen University was established in 1983, which is one of the disciplines established at the beginning of Shenzhen University in 1983, and the Department of Applied Mathematics was established in the same year. 1996, the Department of Mathematics Education of Teachers' College was established, and the Department of Mathematics of the College of Science was established in 1998, and the second-level master's degree of Applied Mathematics was approved in 2003, and the School of Mathematics and Computing Science was established by merging the two departments in 2006 and the first-level master's degree of Mathematics in 2012. Master's point of first-level discipline of mathematics was approved in 2012, master's point of first-level discipline of statistics was approved in 2013, the name was changed to School of Mathematics and Statistics in 2015, and doctoral point of first-level discipline of mathematics was approved in 2021. At present, the college has strong faculty, perfect training system for undergraduates and graduates, four National Leading Talent Project inductees, two National Young Talent Project inductees, and has achieved fruitful results in scientific research and innovation, governance and education, social service, etc., and has become an important base for mathematical talent training and scientific research in China, especially in South China.

This year is the 40th anniversary of the founding of Shenzhen University, and also the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Mathematics Department of Shenzhen University. The development of the college in the "14th Five-Year Plan" period has entered a new stage of development, and the development of the college's disciplines in the context of the "14th Five-Year Plan" development requires the vision and concept of large mathematical sciences. Recently, the school decided to change the name of the school to "School of Mathematical Sciences of Shenzhen University", hoping that the school will seize the opportunity of the 40th anniversary of the school and the discipline to build a "peak" of mathematics, develop a large mathematical science and impact on the world-class disciplines.
